India-Sri Lanka series called off

August 20, 2006 20:40 IST

The three-match One-Day International series between India and Sri Lanka has been called off after the first two ODIs were abandoned due to rains.

Official announcement by the Sri Lanka Board is expected shortly. The series will be rescheduled after the 2007 World Cup.

South Africa, who were the third team participating in the series, pulled out on August 16 after a car bomb blast killed seven people near the team's hotel on August 14.

Indian team will leave Colombo on Monday evening.
