Tri-series hangs in balance

The South African players in Sri Lanka are "very edgy" and want to return home, Cricket South Africa's CEO Gerald Majola said on Tuesday.

Majola was speaking this morning on the national SAFM radio about whether or not the team will contiue its current tour following a bomb explosion barely two kms away from the team hotel.

"I have just received a telephone call from Mickey Arthur (coach) saying that the players are not very keen to continue the tour and they want to return home," said Majola.

"According to Mickey the players are very edgy."

Majola said the team management in Colombo would be holding talks with the Indian and Sri Lankan team managements about the situation later in the day.

"We will await the team's report and a report from our own security advisers before we take a decision. We will make a decision sometime today," he said.

Majola said if the security consultants advise that the team should continue the tour, then the team would go ahead with its prior commitment but if advised otherwise, then it would return home.

Meanwhile, the openeing tri-series match between South Africa and Sri Lanka at Premadasa Stadium was called off until further notice. The match was to slated for Monday but was postponed because of heavy rains.
