India Under-19 make strong reply

August 03, 2006 17:32 IST

Solid batting by the top order saw India Under-19 put up a strong reply to their England counterparts' total on the second day of the second four-day Test at County Ground, Taunton, on Wednesday.

Responding to the hosts' 392 in the first innings, the Indians were 230 for 3 at stumps.

Uday Kaul (46) and Pervez Aziz (49) laid the foundation with a 64-run partnership.

Later, Sumit Sharma (42) and Vikram Kohli (42 not out) carried on the good work.

T M Srivastava was at the crease on 24 when stumps were drawn.

Adil Rashid, who scored 114 in the England Under-19 innings after being unbeaten on 59 at stumps on day 1, was the most successful bowler, claiming two wickets for 88 runs.

The 18-year-old leg spinner had claimed seven wickets on his first-class debut for Yorkshire.
