Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh [Images], who came out strongly in support of skipper Sourav Ganguly [Images] in his spat with coach Greg Chappell [Images], is set to be let off with a mild chiding by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA).

Harbhajan, the only player to speak on the controversy, backed his captain, crediting him for the success of the team while accusing Chappell of creating "fear and insecurity" among the cricketers.

His remarks drew the attention of the PCA, which asked his to explain his outburst against Chappell.

According to Board of Control for Cricket in India sources, Harbhajan would be let off with a warning that he shouldn't speak to the media on this issue.

The sources said any possibility of punishment is being discounted because otherwise the issue would be needlessly stretched and it might lead to more unpleasantness.

Harbhajan met Ganguly in Mumbai on Tuesday, but it wasn't clear if the captain pleaded the off-spinner's case with the board members.

Harbhajan will be heard by PCA members later on Thursday.

"We have asked him to come and meet us to give his version of what has been coming in the media," PCA secretary M P Pandove had said on Monday.

"The Administrative Committee has taken note of and considered the statements made by him."
