Uttar Pradesh on brink of victory November 25, 2005 22:51 IST Hosts Uttar Pradesh were on their way to a comprehensive win against Haryana as they gained a 33-run first innings lead and then reduced the visitors for 135 for nine in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'B' match in Kanpur on Friday. The third day's play at the Green Park saw as many as 17 wickets fall for 227 runs. Uttar Pradesh, resuming 215 for three, were all aout for 310 in reply to Haryana's 277. But they hit back with a vengeance as Haryana lost half their line up for just 41 runs. Medium pacer Ashisn Winston Zaidi picked 4-15. First innings hero Joginder Sharma (28) once again displayed solid defence. Sharma and Sachin Rana (29) added 58 runs for seventh wicket stand which gave Haryana some respectibility. Earlier, Uttar Pradesh could fetch only 92 runs from its last seven wickets. Rizwan Khan completed his half century with the help of eight boundaries. He and Gyanendra Pandey addded 94 runs for fourth wicket. Thereafter, Praveen Kumar and captain Jyoti Yadav added 62 runs.
