Baroda 13 for 2 on rain-marred opening day

November 23, 2005 19:36 IST

Baroda were 13 for the loss of two wickets at close on the rain-marred opening day in the 'Elite' Group 'B' Ranji Trophy match against Andhra in Ananthapur (AP) on Wednesday.

Put in to bat, Baroda started the innings after tea under overcast conditions and lost two early wickets.

Irshad Sindhi (1) and Satyajit Parab (10) returned to pavilion as Andhra's pace bowlers extracted good bounce from the wicket.

Play was stopped due to bad light after nine overs with skipper Connor Williams (1) and Jacob Martin (1) at the crease.

For hosts, speedster Shahbuddin and Kalyan Krishna claimed a wicket apiece.

Due to inclement weather, triggered off by a depression in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rain has been lashing the town the past two days.

With the sun coming out, there was a ray hope for play to begin but the wet outfield and sudden drizzle played spoilsport till noon.

After three rounds of inspection, umpires agreed that play could be possible after the tea break.

With the outfield still wet, the Baroda batsmen faced some awkward bounce and the seasoned Satyajit, going for a big hit off Shahbuddin, was stumped by wicketkeeper MSK Prasad for 10 runs.

Irshad Sindhi was trapped leg before by Kalyan Krishna when the score was 12. Play was stopped due to bad light after new batsman Jacob Martin scored a solitary run at the end of the ninth over.
