Amarnath, Chappell optimistic

All the four candidates shortlisted for the India coach's job arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday night and expressed a quite confidence of winning the job.

The four contenders, Australians Greg Chappell and Tom Moody, the West Indies' Desmond Haynes and India's Mohinder Amarnath will face the interviewing panel, comprising former India captains Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and Srinivas Venkatraghavan and Board of Control for Cricket in India president Ranbir Singh Mahendra, secretary Nair and former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, at the Taj Palace this afternoon.

Meet the contenders

Former Windies opener Haynes arrived late Wednesday night and was promptly issued a visa.

Amarnath told rediff.com his chances are very bright. "I am an Indian and I only know the team best," he said on Thursday morning.

"Like the others I too have the experience for the job and am looking forward to it."

Chappell was as optimistic. The former Australia captain said he has a presentation that should impress the selection committee.

"Besides I have all the experience to take over from [former coach] John Wright.

Asked what went wrong the last time he was interviewed for the job, Chappell replied, "John got it."

The 39-yearold Moody, currently the Director of Cricket at the Worcestershire County Club in England, who reportedly the Indian players' preference, did not want to be disturbed, and said he would speak after the interview.
