Mongia scores fluent 66

June 16, 2005 21:10 IST

Dinesh Mongia scored a fluent 66 to give respectability to Leicestershire's first innings score against Worcestershire in a Frizzell County Championship Division two match on Thursday.

Riding on the Indian batsman's knock, which was the only half-century in the innings, the home side made 225 all out at Leicester. Mongia played an attacking innings and hit 13 fours during his 82-ball effort to take his team's score to 200 before the side suffered a slump, losing the last six wickets for a further 25 runs.

In a Division one match, Harbhajan Singh made a quickfire 25 for Surrey against Hampshire on a rain truncated day at Southampton. The Indian international, resuming the day at unbeaten six, made his runs off just 16 balls hitting four boundaries and a six as Surrey were bowled out for 361.

It is strange to see so much coverage given to national cricketers in the county championship on the UK...please give good coverage to local tournaments ...
