Mumbai deny Delhi any points January 03, 2005 21:34 IST Holders Mumbai dashed Delhi's hopes of making it to the semi-finals by taking a huge 206-run first innings lead before their Elite Divison Group A tie petered out into a draw in Mumbai on Monday. The highlight of the day was a sparkling century by Amol Muzumdar, who had made 112 in Mumbai's massive first innings score of 600 for 9 declared. Muzumdar thus became the second Mumbai batsman after Wasim Jaffer to compile three centuries in Ranji Trophy this season. Muzumdar, who batted for close to six hours and struck 13 fours, also put on 144 runs for the fifth wicket with Bhavin Thakkar, who made 82 in less than three hours, as the hosts ground the visitors attack and hopes to dust on a featherbed of a track at the Wankhede Stadium. The Delhi attack was listless. Delhi's most successful bowler was skipper Ajay Jadeja who returned figures of 4 for 59. The three frontline bowlers - Ashish Nehra, Sarandeep Singh and Rahul Sanghvi - conceded over hundred runs each for modest returns. The home team, which started the day at 350 for three, later took one Delhi second innings wicket for 37 and ended their league engagements with an impressive tally of 23 points. Delhi failed to add to their pre-match aggregate of 12.
