A huge rush marked the opening day's sale of tickets for the first Test between India and Pakistan at Mohali, near Chandigarh, with about 4000 tickets being sold.

"We have sold nearly 4000 tickets and more ticket seekers are pouring in. We believe that by Tuesday we would have sold out most of the quota," Punjab Cricket Association treasurer G S Walia said.

The PCA has reserved about 7,500 tickets for Pakistani fans.

The PCA stadium has a sitting capacity of 40,000 and despite the ongoing board examinations, huge crowds are expected to witness the opening encounter, beginning March 8.

Senior PCA official M P Pandove said the association's appeal to Mohali residents to help the visitors with accommodation has received tremendous response.

"We have got several calls from people who have said they will provide beds and even breakfast and lunch to the Pakistanis coming to watch the match," he said.

Chandigarh's leading hotels are already booked to capacity.
