Defeat stares at Haryana December 27, 2005 21:13 IST K S Shahabuddin sparkled with an all-round performance as Andhra amassed 409 to take a first innings lead of 203 against Haryana, who were reeling at 125 for 8 in their second innings on the penultimate day of the Elite Group 'B' Ranji Trophy match Ananthapur on Tuesday. Replying to Haryana first innings score of 206, Andhra batsmen, resuming at 192 for 4, consolidated their position further with Gnaneshwara Rao (73) and Shahabuddin (61) picking up runs at ease. Mohammed Faiq scored a quickfire unbeaten 42 as the score coasted to 409 giving a massive 203-run first innings lead. Haryana batsmen tumbled in the second innings at 125 for eight, to a fine bowling by Shahabuddin who troubled the top order with his pace and line. Shahabuddin returned with figures of five for 26 and wrecked the Haryana innings. Starting with a deficit of 203 runs, visitors are still 78 runs short with two wickets in hand and one day's play to go.
Wickets fell in quick succession with Kalyan Krishna, the second new ball bowler holding the second end tight. Pradeep Sahu (29) and Mahesh Rawat (40) were the other two batsmen who gathered some runs. Kalyan Krishna claimed three wickets for 47 runs and Haryana has a huge task ahead but going by the pitch condition and the way Andhra bowlers were performing, the result appears to be in favour of hosts.
