Following on, the visitors, however, staged a fight-back ending the day 78 without loss with Satyajit Satbhai batting on 53 with five fours and captain Hrishikesh Kanitkar on two.

Kanitkar came in after Dheeraj Jadhav retired hurt for 15.

Earlier, responding to Karnataka's 260, Maharashtra collapsed in the first knock, unable to come to terms with the bowling of R Vinay Kumar (5/22) and C Raghavendra (4/37), who wrecked their innings.

Dheeraj Jadhav was the top-scorer for them with 30, as wickets fell at regular intervals and Maharashtra never really recovered. In fact, the highest partnership came for the tenth wicket between Suyash Burkul and Rohit Jadhav.

Karnataka has a 152-run first innings lead.

Brief scores: Karnataka 260 all out in 95.2 overs (Robin Uthappa 96, Barrington Rowland 46, Sujith Somasundar 31, Bharath Chipli 27; Sairaj Bahutule 4/81, Munaf Patel [Images] 3/37) vs Maharashtra 108 all out in 56.1 overs (Dheeraj Jadhav 30, Bahutule 19, Vinay Kumar 5/22, Raghavendra 4/37) and 78 without loss (Satbhai batting 53).
