East Bengal coach Subhas Bhowmick, arrested by CBI sleuths while accepting bribe from a businessman from near a city club, was on Saturday remanded to judicial custody by a CBI special court till December 9, sources in the investigating agency said.

CBI had booked Bhowmick under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. It had not yet slapped any assault case on him even as Bhowmick had punched one the CBI officials during his arrest.

Bhowmick was interrogated in the CBI headquarters at Nizam Palace till late last night before being taken to the city police headquarters at Lalbazar early today, sources said.

The investigating agency had been carrying out raids in Bhowmick's three houses in Alipur, Belur and Bolpur. CBI officials said details of the raids will be available later.

A renowned forward of the Indian soccer team, Bhowmick, who works with the anti-evasion department of Central Excise, was trapped in the CBI net while taking the bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh on Saturday.

The CBI sleuths earlier laid a trap on a tip-off that Bhowmick had demanded money for favouring the businessman in connection with raid conducted on him on November 30, sources said. According to the sources, Bhowmick demanded a sum of Rs 4 lakh as bribe from the businessman which was finally 'settled' at Rs 1.50 lakh.

Meanwhile CBI, which conducted raids in the three residences of Bhowmick since last evening, found proof that the football coach's wife owns a resturant in the city along with a partner, a top official in the investigating agency said.

The sleuths unearthed assets worth Rs 9 lakh from his Alipur residence which did not take in account the investments, with valuation (of investments) still remaining incomplete.

"In cash we found Rs 30,000, one bank locker with gold jewellery worth 870 grams valued at Rs 6.88 lakh and other inventory worth Rs 2 lakh," the official said.

"The Bolpur house is estimated at Rs 25-30 lakh and built over 24 kottahs of land," he said.
