New Zealand [Images] fell two runs short of eclipsing Sri Lanka's [Images] highest score in One-Day Internationals on Wenesday.

- Scorecard | Match report

Put into bat by Zimbabwe in the first tri-series match, also involving India, at Bulawayo, the Kiwis, led by a fierce assault from Lou Vincent (172) and Stephen Fleming [Images] (93) finished at 397 for 5 in 44 overs.

The match was reduced by six overs each team due to damp pitch conditions.

New Zealand though finished with the highest scoring rate (9.02) in ODIs.

They can take consolation from the fact that Sri Lanka posted 398 for five from 50 overs, against Kenya at Kandy, during the 1996 Wills World Cup.

A look at the records missed and made during the match:

Highest Team totals
New Zealand just missed the opportunity to become the first team to score 400 in ODIs. They needed 13 runs off the last over and later a four off the last ball. Their score is now the second highest in all ODIs
