Wisden - the Bible of Cricket, in case you need reminding -- has released its list of the five International Cricketers of the Year.

It is a list that makes you think -- and the first thing you think is, this can't be right.

It can't be right that the top five cricketers of the year happen to be Englishmen; it can't be right that the performances of the chosen five rank higher than those of a plethora of standout performers with bat and with ball in the calendar year 2004.

And from that thought, stems the question: Who, in the year gone by, deserves to be ranked as the first -- okay, the first five -- among equals?

We don't have the answers. Yet. We are waiting for you to provide them.

What we have, is the statistics-based list of the top batsmen and bowlers, over the 12 months in question. Each name links to a page, detailing their performances in 2004.

Read. Evaluate. And arrive at an informed decision. Vote for the five players you believe deserve the accolade of best performers of the year.

Let us, together, arrive at a more acceptable list.

All the statistics are for Test cricket alone.
