Assam fight back against UP

November 25, 2004 22:02 IST

Uttar Pradesh did well to dismiss Assam for 184 but then struggled with the bat in the first innings on the opening day of the Elite Group B Ranji Trophy match in Kanpur on Thursday.

Uttar Pradesh were 111 for the loss of five wickets, with Parag Das (19) and Parvez Aziz (58) at the crease at stumps.

Aziz appeared set for a big score as he had slammed eight boundaries and a six in his confident knock of 58.

Earlier, Assam failed to find their bearings at the Kamla Club ground with wickets falling at regular intervals.

Chandan Rawat (37), R Satish (23) and Gautam Dutta (26) were the only batsmen who could get into double figures.

For UP, A Zaidi, R P Singh and Salabh Srivastava were the successful bowlers.

In  reply, UP were off to a poor start, losing two wickets for 24 runs.

For Assam, R K Yadav claimed three wickets for 51 runs while Sukhvinder and S Satish took one wicket each.
