Six held for betting

November 22, 2004 13:20 IST

Six people have been arrested on charges of betting during the ongoing first cricket Test between India and South Africa in Kanpur, police said on Monday.

Randhir Singh Rana, allegedly the leader of the gang, and his accomplices were arrested during a raid in Lajpat Nagar area of the city last night, they said.

A computer, some mobile and WLL phones, cheque books and Rs 30,000 in cash were recovered from the accused, they added.

Some documents, showing their alleged involvement in betting during the ICC Champions Trophy held in England in September, were also seized, police said.

Two persons were arrested during 2000 India-Zimbabwe series on charges of betting but Rana could not be arrested then, police said.
