India vs South Africa, First Test, Day 1

South African captain Graeme Smith plays a shot off Zaheer Khan during the first day of the first Test match at Kanpur on Saturday.

South Africa, who won the toss and chose to bat, included two uncapped players, Zander de Bruyn and wicketkeeper Thami Tsolekile in the team. For India, Sourav Ganguly returned to side.

At close of play, South Africa were 230 for four wickets after 92 overs.
