Former India player Ajay Jadeja has criticised the Indian team for not coming out in support of skipper Sourav Ganguly who has been pulled up by the ICC for slow over rate in the BCCI's Platinum Jubilee match against Pakistan in Kolkata on Saturday.

"It is sad that nobody has supported Ganguly. In 50 years no other captain has done so much for his boys," Jadeja said in New Delhi on Tuesday.

"Sourav always stands by his teammates whenever required but nobody has come forward for him. It is not surprising, in fact, it is sad," said the Delhi Ranji captain.

Former India all-rounder Kapil Dev and Zaheer Abbas of Pakistan, who were also present, said they felt the punishment is harsh.

"From a cricketer's point of view, this punishment is really harsh. But every game has its rules and players have to follow that," Kapil said.

"It is sad for cricket but it has to happen because there are rules and regulations for every game. It applies to every game," Abbas said.

"Sourav must have been warned by Clive Lloyd during the game. He [Lloyd] is a responsible man and must have taken all the factors into consideration," he added.
