Rain forces early end to AP-MP tie

November 10, 2004 20:07 IST

Unseasonal rains forced an early end to the Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match between Madhya Pradesh and Andhra on the fourth and final day at the Usharaje Ground in Indore on Wednesday.

Andhra gained two points from the drawn encounter by virtue of having taken the first innings lead over the hosts, who failed to get a point.

At close, Andhra were 195 for the loss of three wickets in their second essay, with Y Venugopal Rao (60, 4x10) and MSK Prasad (25) being the not out batsmen.

After Andhra resumed at their overnight score of 74 for no loss, Shantanu Pitre struck an early blow for MP when he claimed the wickets of L N Prasad Reddy (28 with four fours) and Amit Pathak (56, 8 fours and a six).

MP tasted another success when M Suresh (12) was caught by Ojha off Sanjay Pandey, before Rao and Prasad stemmed the rot in a fourth-wicket partnership to take the score to 195 when bad weather intervened.
