Mashud replaces Bashar as captain

November 06, 2004 19:28 IST

Former captain and wicketkeeper Khaled Mashud will lead Bangladesh in the third and final one-day international against New Zealand on Sunday in the absence of the injured Habibul Bashar.

Bashar was struck on the left toe by left-arm pace bowler James Franklin in the second one-dayer on Friday. He had earlier missed the two-match Test series against New Zealand with a finger injury.

"Bashar has been ruled out for at least two weeks because of this new injury," Bangladesh team manager Abdul Latif told reporters on Saturday.

New Zealand, who won both Tests by an innings, have an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the one-day series. They won the second one-dayer by three wickets in Dhaka on Friday.

Bangladesh: Khaled Mashud (captain), Rajin Saleh, Mohammad Ashraful, Javed Omar, Nafees Iqbal, Aftab Ahmed, Mushfiqur Rahman, Khaled Mahmud, Mohammad Rafique, Manjural Islam Rana, Tapash Baisya, Nazmul Hossain.
