Bangladesh moved to an impressive 406 for nine wickets at the close of play on the rain-affected second day of the first Test against West Indies at Gros Islet in St Lucia on Saturday.

Captain Habibul Bashar had led the way with 113 on Friday and he was emulated on Saturday by Mohammad Rafique who came in at seventh wicket down and made 103 not out from 138 balls.

The visitors, overnight 278 for seven, moved to 406 for nine on a day shortened to just 41.1 overs after heavy overnight and early morning rain forced a delay.

34-year-old Rafique, whose previous highest Test score was 32, registered his maiden Test century just before play ended early due to bad light.

Ashraful, resuming on 65, missed out on his century when he was out leg before wicket to Jermaine Lawson for 81.

Bangladesh are still seeking their first Test victory since being granted Test status in 2000.
