Lara gets another record Rajneesh Gupta | June 27, 2004 West Indies captain Brian Lara became the most successful batsman for his country in one-day internationals in his innings of 36 in the rain-abandoned NatWest triangular series match against New Zealand on Saturday. Lara's run-aggregate at the end of the match reads 8671 from 234 appearances at an average of 42.50. Haynes had a tally of 8648 runs in 238 matches. Lara now holds the top slot for West Indies in both forms of cricket. He has a tally of 9830 runs from 108 Test appearances – highest for West Indies and fourth highest in the world. Only one other player -- former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper batsman Andy Flower -- has scored most runs in both forms of cricket for his country. Lara in one-day internationals:

The only six hit by Lara in yesterday's match was his 100th in one-day internationals. He became the second West Indian (after Viv Richards) and tenth batsman in the history of one-day internationals to complete a century of sixes.
