After being unceremoniously sacked as national coach, former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad can take solace from the fact that his replacement Bob Woolmer will take home a paycheck smaller than his.

According to a Pakistan Cricket Board official, the former South Africa coach will be paid 900,000 Pakistani rupees per month in comparison to the 1.1 million-rupee check Miandad was paid.

"But there will be incentives for Woolmer for winning one-day and Test series and also if the team improves its world ranking," said the PCB official.

According to the official, Miandad wanted the PCB to increase his powers in matters of team selection and picking the final eleven for matches. With that also came the demand for more money.

Miandad's contention was that he should not be held accountable for the team's poor performance when skipper Inzamam-ul Haq had the final say in selecting the playing eleven.

Despite losing his job Miandad will walk away with a cool 1.5 crore (15 million) rupees since his contract was terminated 11 months before it expired.
