The victory handed the hosts a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

The New Zealand captain shared a second-wicket stand of 148 with Hamish Marshall (64) as the Kiwis easily overhauled Pakistan's total of 255 for nine.

Abdul Razzaq hit an unbeaten 50 off 26 deliveries to help Pakistan reach their total.

Asked to bat, Pakistan started well before losing wickets at regular intervals and struggled to build any momentum until Razzaq's late onslaught gave their total a respectable look.

New Zealand got off to a poor start when Craig Cumming (3) was caught by Yasir Hameed, who juggled the ball before holding on to it, off the bowling of Mohammad Sami with the score on 10.

But New Zealand quickly increased their run rate as Marshall raised his half-century in 57 balls with four boundaries, while opener Fleming was even more ruthless with the Pakistan bowlers and raced to his half century in 48 balls, stroking eight fours.

Following the departure of Marshall, who was caught by Sami off Shoaib Malik in the 30th over, Scott Styris (20) and Craig McMillan (36 not out) supported their skipper to guide New Zealand home with 3.4 overs to spare.

Earlier, Saleem Elahi top scored for the tourists with a patient 80 but a number of the side's other top batsmen were dismissed after making positive starts.

Pakistan raced to 50 before they lost their first wicket, Imran Farhat caught behind by Brendon McCullum off Kyle Mills for 17.

The score had moved on to 72 when another wicket fell one ball shy of the end of the 15th over as Jacob Oram had Hameed caught by Styris for 44.

Pakistan doubled the score before losing two more wickets on 144, Yousuf Youhana (36) run out by Cumming and Inzamam-ul-Haq caught behind off Daryl Tuffey for a three-ball duck.

New Zealand dropped four catches but Fleming did reach the milestone of 100 one-day catches when he picked up Malik in the slips.

He wasted little time adding to that total when he snared the impressive Elahi at mid-wicket.
