Kaif fit for Pakistan tour
February 23, 2004 12:01 IST
Indian middle-order batsman Mohammad Kaif, who missed the one-day series in Australia earlier this year due to a thumb injury, has been declared fit for India's tour of Pakistan starting next month."The doctors have certified that I'm fit and fully recovered," Kaif said. "I started batting in the nets two days ago. There are no problems and I feel no discomfort," he said. Kaif had sustained the injury in December in a series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka's A teams. The 23-year-old has been a key member of India's one-day team with 1,170 runs in 59 matches at 30.78. His most memorable knock was an unbeaten 87 against England in a triangular final at Lord's in 2002 to help India chase a mammoth 326 for victory. Kaif had been replaced by left-hander Rohan Gavaskar, son of former India captain Sunil, for the one-dayers in Australia. India will play a five-match one-day series in Pakistan, starting in Karachi on March 13, followed by three Tests.
