Andhra post impressive win

December 16, 2004 21:36 IST

Y Gnaneswar Rao scored an enterprising half-century as Andhra beat Bengal by four wickets in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'A' match at Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

Set a target of 190 runs for an outright win, the hosts put up a confident batting performance to surpass the total in 53.2 overs and bag four points.

Prasad Reddy (49) and Y Venugopal Rao (30 not out) were the other two major contributors.

Ranadeb Bose claimed three wickets for the visitors.

Earlier, Bengal had a disastrous start to the day as their second innings folded up without adding a single run to the overnight tally of 144.

Bengal, which had bundled out the hosts for just 188 runs in the first innings had failed to capitalise on the first innings lead of 46 runs and had come a cropper in the second innings.

Medium pacer D Kalyan Krishna claimed three wickets for 20 runs while K S Shahabuddin and Venugopal Rao had chipped in with two wickets each.
