Pakistan embarassed in tour game

December 11, 2004 17:15 IST

Pakistan's brittle batting was exposed for a second time by Western Australia, who completed a 10-wicket victory on Saturday after bowling Pakistan out for 174 in their second innings.

Pakistan found the local pace attack in Perth too hot to handle and set the home side just 33 runs to win.

Western Australia captain Justin Langer (14 not out) and first innings century-maker Mike Hussey (six not out) achieved the victory target within five overs, ending the four-day match a day early.

Pakistan face Australia in the first Test at Perth starting on Thursday where the touring side's ability to cope with the pace and bounce of the pitch will be fully examined.

Coach Bob Woolmer said: "Obviously we don't look like we're going to beat the Australians. We don't look like we can beat anyone at the moment but I've seen the Pakistan side play like this and I've seen them come right."

Captain Inzamam-ul-Haq said: "The only way we can prove people wrong is when we play on the field of play, so we're going to just have to work a bit harder than we are at the moment."

Man of the match Brett Dorey took 5-41 in Pakistan's second innings with only opener Salman Butt (47), Yousuf Youhana (32) and Abdul Razzaq (35 not out) showing some resistance.

Home Test hopeful Hussey scored 124 in Western Australia's 404 for nine on Friday when the home side grabbed a first innings lead of 142 in reply to Pakistan's 262.
