New Zealand send injured Harris home

December 09, 2004 16:30 IST

New Zealand all-rounder and one-day specialist Chris Harris returned home with a shoulder injury and will be replaced by Auckland's Tama Canning.

Canning will join the squad in Brisbane on Thursday as the Kiwis prepare for the third and deciding Chappell-Hadlee One-Day Series match against world champions Australia on Friday.

"Canning replaces Chris Harris in the Black Caps after the 250-game veteran tore the rotator cuff in his bowling shoulder while fielding in the second match at the Sydney Cricket Ground last night," a New Zealand team statement said.

Canning made his one-day international debut against Pakistan last season, playing three of the five-match series.

The injury to Harris is another blow to the Kiwis, who have batsmen Scott Styris and Brendon McCullum facing a disciplinary hearing on Thursday following Wednesday's 17-run loss. They will be asked to explain their reactions after being dismissed.
