West Indies call up Sammy

August 28, 2004 15:04 IST

West Indies have drafted all rounder Darren Sammy into their squad for the ICC Champions Trophy in England next month.

Sammy replaces fast bowler Jermaine Lawson, who has withdrawn due to injury, the West Indies Cricket Board said in a statement.

Lawson has been diagnosed with a stress fracture of the lower back and will be out of action for at least six weeks.

West Indies are in Champions Trophy Group B along with South Africa and Bangladesh. They play their first game against Bangladesh on September 15.
