Pakistan to host tri-series

August 28, 2004 15:47 IST

Pakistan will host Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in a tri-series from September 30 to October 16, with one match in Karachi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced.

According to the itinerary the PCB has scheduled just one match at their oldest Test venue in Karachi where touring teams have been reluctant to play because of security fears.

The Indians played only a one-day international in Karachi in March after refusing to play a Test match.

Last year the South African and New Zealand teams also refused to play in the port city, which has been the target of several bomb attacks.

PCB spokesman Abbas Zaidi said neither Sri Lanka nor Zimbabwe had said they were worried.

"No team has expressed any security concerns about playing at Karachi. It has got one match because we have to distribute the tri-series all over the country," he said.

The tri-series schedule:

September 30: Pakistan v Zimbabwe at Multan

October 3: Pakistan v Zimbabwe at Peshawar

Oct 6: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Karachi

Oct 9: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe at Rawalpindi

Oct 11: Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe at Rawalpindi

Oct 14: Pakistan v Sri Lanka (D/N) at Lahore

Oct 16: Final (D/N) at Lahore.
