Brian Lara became the second batsman in Test history to score two triple centuries when he scored an unbeaten 313 on the second day of the fourth and final Test against England at St John's, Antigua, on Sunday.

Interestingly, his previous triple ton -- a world record 375 surpassed only last year by Australian Matthew Hayden -- also came on the same ground against the same opposition.

Before Lara, Don Bradman was the only batsman in Test history to score two triple tons. By an odd coincidence, Bradman's triple centuries had also come against the same opponent (England) and on the same ground (Leeds).

Lara has now scored seven multiple hundreds in his career, which takes him to second position along with England's Wally Hammond in the list of leading batsmen. Only Bradman has scored more multiple centuries -- 12 to be precise. The accompanying table has the details:

Lara also achieved another important milestone during his marathon innings. His run aggregate at the end of the second day stood at 5,022 in home matches. Lara thus became only the fifth batsman in Test annals to aggregate 5,000 runs in home matches after England's Graham Gooch (5,917 runs in 74 Tests), Australia's Allan Border (5,743 in 86) and Steve Waugh (5,710 in 89), and India's Sunil Gavaskar (5,067 in 65).

Lara, however, is the fastest among them in terms of matches. Lara needed only 54 Tests to accomplish this feat, quite an improvement over Gooch's 63.
