Windies call up Powell

April 10, 2004 13:13 IST

The West Indies called up all-rounder Ricardo Powell for the fourth and final Test against England, starting on Saturday.

Powell, who has just one Test appearance to his name, replaces Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who was dropped after suffering from fatigue, as the West Indies look to avoid a first ever whitewash on home soil.

Powell won the battle with Dwayne Smith and Sylvester Joseph for the last remaining place.

It is the only change from the side which lost the third Test in Barbados last weekend.

England have already clinched the series after taking a 3-0 lead in the four-match contest.

The West Indies squad: Brian Lara (captain), Chris Gayle, Daren Ganga, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Ricardo Powell, Ryan Hinds, Ridley Jacobs, Tino Best, Corey Collymore, Pedro Collins, Fidel Edwards.
