Astle ruled out of ODIs due to injury

Faisal Shariff in Mumbai | October 14, 2003 11:23 IST

New Zealand batsman Nathan Astle has been ruled out of the triangular one-day series involving India, New Zealand and Australia following the flaring up of his knee injury.

He was instrumental in guiding the Kiwis to safety in the Ahmedabad Test.

Astle, however, will play the second Test starting at Mohali on October 16. He will be flying home after that.

The Indian tour was Astle's first tour since his knee injury.

Chris Nevin will replace Astle for the triangular one-day series. Chris Cairns, Chris Harris, Brendon McCullum and Kyle Mills will also join the New Zealand team for the tri-series beginning October 23.

Astle scored a century in the drawn Ahmedabad Test . He batted in the second innings despite a bad stomach and scored a half-century.
