The West Indies' 21-year-old fast bowler Jermaine Lawson failed a fitness test on a back strain yesterday and will not play.

He has been replaced by 24-year-old hard-hitting batsman Ricardo Powell.

Lawson took seven for 78 in the first innings of the fourth Test against Australia, saving his team from a probable whitewash, but the feat was blighted by the match referee's report to the International Cricket Council about the legality of his action.

Offspinner Omari Banks and wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh Jr will make their debut appearances in one-day internationals in a West Indian team that has an average age of less than 25.

Australia have drafted in left-hander Michael Bevan and all-rounders Andrew Symonds and Ian Harvey after flying the three one-day specialists out to the Caribbean earlier this week.
