Former Mumbai all-rounder Sharad Diwadkar has resigned as Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary because of ill-health.

Diwadkar said he has been advised long rest by his doctors but will continue till a replacement is found.

"I will continue to function till the Working Committee meeting, in Delhi on July 2 and 3, where they will decide when to relieve me," he added.

Diwadkar took over as executive secretary a few months after former India Test star Polly Umrigar, who was unhappy with the functioning of the Board, resigned in 1997. Umrigar had served as executive secretary from 1987 to '97.

Others who have served as executive secretary or assistant secretary are N D Karmarkar, from 1948-80, Prof. M V Chandgadhkar, from 1980-84 and Keki Tarapore, from 1984-86.
