Gujarat in tame draw with Bengal

Fine centuries by Akash Christian (103), A Sood (100 not out) and N K Patel (118) enabled Gujarat draw their Ranji Trophy Elite group 'B' match against Bengal on the concluding day at Sardar Patel stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad, on Sunday.

Trailing by 300 runs in the first innings, Gujarat scored 384 for three at stumps in their second essay.

For Bengal, Sourashish Lahiri and Amitava Chakraborty took a wicket each.

Earlier, Bengal scored 479 after Gujarat were bowled out for 179 in the first innings. The draw enabled Bengal aggregate nine points at the completion of their league engagements.

Bengal failed to make it to the semi-finals as they finished fourth in their group, while Gujarat with eight points finished fifth.

Hyderabad and Tamil Nadu were the two teams from group 'B' to make it to the semi-finals.
