Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar took six wickets, including a burst of five for nine, as Bangladesh collapsed to 361 all out on the second day of the second Test on Thursday.

Opener Javed Omar scored a maiden Test century but his dismissal for 119, bowled by an inswinging full toss from Shoaib just after lunch with the score on 310 for two, sparked the rout as six wickets fell for 10 runs.

Pakistan, in reply, closed on 134 for two in their first innings.

The 28-year-old Shoaib, offered no help by a flat track and the extremely hot and humid conditions, ended with six for 50 off 22.5 overs, the second-best figures of his Test career.

Omar batted for eight-and-a-quarter hours and faced 357 balls, hitting 17 fours and putting on 130 for the third wicket with Mohammad Ashraful.

"I got the wickets through raw pace; the wicket had nothing in it for me," said Shoaib.

"It was very hard and I had to wear the ice jacket to keep cool.

"The wickets have always been like this in Pakistan for the bowlers...they have no pace or bounce and first Imran (Khan) used to complain and now it is me."

Omar paid tribute to the man who dismissed him.

"I think he produced a wonderful spell of reverse swing and extreme pace after lunch," he said. "Shoaib showed his class today."

The conditions were so difficult, indeed, that umpire Russell Tiffin of Zimbabwe was forced off with stomach cramps and exhaustion.

Ashraful was Shoaib's second victim, edging a hook behind for 77 one over after Omar's departure.

The strike bowler, who felt ill and dizzy on the opening day, wrapped up the innings by dismissing Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud, his 97th victim in his 27th Test.

Pakistan lost Mohammad Hafeez and local boy Yasir Hameed, who scored 170 and 105 in the first Test at Karachi, to leave the match well poised.

Taufeeq Umar (60 not out) and Inzamam-ul-Haq (24 not out) joined forces with the total on 84 and steadied the innings with an undefeated stand of 50.

Shoaib Malik will not bat after being forced out of the match with a groin injury.

It was the first time Bangladesh, yet to win a Test, had passed 300 in 15 matches. Pakistan lead the three-match series 1-0.
