India U-19 win final one-dayer

April 30, 2003 21:08 IST

The Indian Under-19 team completed a 3-0 whitewash, defeating Nepal by four wickets in the third and final one-dayer at the Tribhuvan University cricket ground in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, on Wednesday.

The Indians, who had scored easy victories in the earlier two games, met with some resistance from the hosts today, but prevailed in the end.

Replying to Nepal's 143 for eight wickets in 27 overs, India reached the target in 26.3 overs with four wickets in hand.

Put in to bat, Nepal were helped by K Chaugai, who topscored with 46, and a 22-run knock by S Pant. But others ailed to make substantial contributions.

U Patel grabbed four wickets while Abhishek Sharma picked two for the vistors.

India were in some trouble at 64 for three but Y G Rao (38) and S Biswas steered the team to safety after A T Rayudu (38) had given the team a steady start alongwith M Bisla (16).

Brief scores:

Nepal: 143 for 8 in 27 overs (K Chaugai 46, S Pant 22; U Patel 4/25, A Sharma 2/21) lost to India U-19: 144 for 6 in 26.3 overs (A T Rayudu 38, Y G Rao 38, S Biswas 20; D Khatri 2/31, S Gauchan 2/21).
