ICC denies Dalmiya's
claim on damages

Jagmohan Dalmiya, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has said that all the financial consequences arising from the deal between the Indian players and the International Cricket Council for the Champions Trophy will be borne by the ICC.
But a senior ICC official rejected Dalmiya's claim and clarified that the deal had nothing to do with compensating the personal sponsors of the players. That matter is between the BCCI and the players, he said.
But if any of the four major sponsors of the Champions Trophy -- LG, South African Airways, Pepsi and Hero Honda -- sue the Global Cricket Corporation and the GCC in turn sues the ICC, cricket's governing body will get all the member boards, including the BCCI, to share the damages.
The official also said the Indian television rights market had been a major factor in influencing the deal. Without a full-strength Indian squad, the tournament would have been a damp squib, he admitted.
