Stage set for the second Test

The newly laid turf at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will come into play for the first time during the second Test match between India and West Indies from October 17 to 21.

The wicket and the outfield have been relaid under the Cricket Board's project of preparing ten 'sporting' wickets across the country.

"We hope the virgin track will provide a competitive game," Tamil Nadu Cricket Association President N Srinivasan told reporters.

Briefing the media on arrangements for the match, he said steps have been taken to ensure smooth conduct of the Test.

On the sale of tickets, he said it was 'reasonable' and TNCA had netted 50 percent of its target revenue. Tickets for 'B' and 'C' stands, the most popular ones, had been sold out.

Joint Commissioner of Police, C Silendra Babu, who was also present, said about 1,500 police personnel would be deployed for security in and around the stadium. Besides, separate security would be provided to the two teams.

He said only plastic water bottles and food packets would be allowed inside the stadium. No metal containers would be permitted.

He warned the people not to indulge in betting or gambling over the match. His warning comes in the wake of the recent busting of a betting racket in the city.

The West Indies, trailing the three-match series 0-1, are already in the city, while the Indian team were expected to reach by Monday. The West Indies will have nets today morning, while the hosts are expected to take the field in the afternoon.
