  Windies in India

Tour match, Bangalore, day three of three:
Indian Board President's XI 275-8 dec drew with West Indies 606-4.

Ramnaresh Sarwan warmed up for the Test series with an unbeaten century as the match against the Indian Board president's XI meandered to a draw.

Sarwan struck a six and 18 fours as he compiled an assured 140 not out.

He became the second centurion in the innings after Wavell Hinds struck 147 on Saturday.

West Indies captain Carl Hooper opted for batting practice on the final day, and helped himself to 67 during a score of 606-4.

Hooper went on the rampage towards the end of his innings, hitting three sixes and seven fours.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul was dismissed for 25 edging paceman Lakshipathy Balaji to wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel.

But Ryan Hinds was in the runs, helping himself to 74, with Ridley Jacobs hitting 50 not out as the Windies batsmen played themselves into form.

The first Test between India and the West Indies starts on Wednesday in Bombay.

With all the batsmen helping themselves to good scores in the three-day match against Board President's XI, West Indian captain Carl Hooper on Sunday said his team was now confident of doing well in the Test series against India.

"I am very happy. It was a good one (match) for us," Hooper told reporters at the end of the match which saw the West Indians score a mammoth 606 for four in reply to Board President's 275 for eight declared in the only innings that was possible.

"It is important that we bat for longer periods of time," he said looking ahead at the three-match Test series which starts in Mumbai on Wednesday.

"We think we can do well. We are looking forward to the first Test. This (the performance in the three-day match) was a good way to launch the Indian tour," Hooper said.

Stressing that his team had taken the three-day game "very very positively", Hooper said West Indies was hoping to continue the winning trend that started in their home series against India.

  Australia-Pakistan Test series

First Test, Colombo, day four:
Australia 467 & 127; Pakistan 279 & 179-3

Opener Taufeeq Umar hit a half century to set Pakistan off to a great start chasing 316 for victory against Australia before rain washed out the final session for the second day in a row.

The 21-year-old smashed 16 boundaries in his 88 and put on 91 for Pakistan's first wicket with Imran Nazir.

But Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne struck back to leave the game tantalisingly poised with Pakistan 179-3 at the close of the fourth day.

  Bangladesh in South Africa

Second one-day international, Benoni:
South Africa 155-0 (20.2 overs) beat Bangladesh 154-9 by 10 wickets

Herschelle Gibbs was denied a record fourth consecutive one-day international century by a wide as South Africa beat Bangladesh by 10 wickets and wrapped up the series at Benoni.

The South African opener looked certain to reach the milestone until Alak Kapali bowled down the leg side and the ball scuttled to the boundary for four extras.

The wide meant Gibbs, unbeaten on 96, had to score a boundary to reach three figures with the scores tied in the second match of the series.

But he chose to run a single to seal the match with the best part of 30 overs to go, leaving him high and dry on 97.

Gibbs, who was dropped on 36, smashed 19 boundaries in his 66 ball innings, and was backed up by Graeme Smith who scored 48.

Earlier, Makhaya Ntini took three wickets as Bangladesh struggled to 154-9.
