Ganguly urged Sehwag to play his shots

Indian captain Sourav Ganguly urged opener Virender Sehwag to continue playing his shots after he scored 114 not out from 82 balls in the third one-day international against West Indies on Tuesday.

India were declared winners by 81 runs after the game ended prematurely because of unruly crowd behaviour after the home side were 200 for one in the 28th over chasing 301 to win.

"He (Sehwag) is outstanding. It's good to bat with him," said Ganguly, who hit 72 in a record 196-run opening stand with Sehwag. "I never tried to stop him playing shots. He should continue to play that way."

Ganguly said batsmen friendly conditions had made things tough for bowlers.

Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly "We need some mercy for bowlers in India. There is not much room for error. It's good to have a win. We will be a confident side in Ahmedabad," he added, referring to the next game on Friday.

West Indies captain Ridley Jacobs said he had felt his side could defend their total of 300 for five.

"We batted well, but did not bowl well," he said.

"The total looked good at first. But after we had bowled, we realised we should have scored a few more runs."

Man-of-the-match Sehwag said he was determined to come good after managing only 28 and one in the previous two games.

"The wicket was very good. I realised if I play along the ground in the first five to six overs we can win easily," he said.
