Azhar to be offered coaching
job at CCI

Disgraced former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin may find
rehabilitation in the Indian cricket establishment if he agrees to
accept an offer to become a coach with the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai.
The coaching offer will be made soon to Azhar, CCI chief Raj Singh
Dugarpur told reporters at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The Hyderabad-based all-rounder, who was banned from all forms of cricket by
the Board of Control for Cricket in India following match-fixing allegations against him, would be asked to coach batting trainees at the CCI,
Dungarpur said.
"He was one of the best batsmen in the world, and young batsmen
can immensely benefit from him. We will approach him to coach our
trainees from December," Dungarpur, who is in Kolkata to watch the third
and final Test match between India and the West Indies, said.
The cricket administrator, however, refused to divulge details of
the monetary benefits Azhar would be offered for his services.
Dungarpur, a former president of the Board of Control for Cricket
in India, is a known supporter of Azharuddin. He had even sought a
revoke on the batsman's life ban from the game.
Since the BCCI ban on him, Azhar has stayed away from cricketing
events, but is known to be playing club-level matches in Hyderabad
to stay in shape.
He played 99 Tests and has repeatedly expressed the hope of being recalled to the national side, a possibility that seems remote given the creditable performance of the present squad in
both Tests and one-dayers.
