Mohandas Menon

4th Test, Day 4 at St John's, Antigua

** The 186 run partnership between Carl Hooper and Shivnarine Chanderpaul was the third between this pair for the 5th wicket in this series. They now emulate Englishmen Jack Hobbs & Herbert Sutcliffe (1st wicket v Australia in 1926), Australians Bill Woodfull & Don Bradman (2nd wicket v South Africa, 1931-32) and Englishmen Graham Gooch & Mike Atherton (1st wicket v India, 1990) as the fourth pair in Test cricket history to register 150-plus partnership for the same wicket and in the same series.

** For the first time in his Test career Sachin Tendulkar has bowled 30 overs in a Test innings. Previously the maximum overs he had delivered was against Australia at Adelaide in 1991-92.

His analysis then was: 20-5-44-0. This was also the maximum runs (94) he has conceded in his Test career. He had conceded 51 runs during his 19 over spell against Zimbabwe at Delhi in 2000-01.

** Hooper's 136 was the highest by a captain at this venue bettering the effort of England's Mike Atherton who made 135 in 1994. The previous highest score by a West Indian captain at this venue was the 110 by Viv Richards v England in 1985.

** Hooper during his above knock crossed the 500-run mark for the series. He becomes the first 'right-handed' batsman to do so since Australian David Boon who made 556 runs in Australia in 1991-92. Since then four other batsmen - all left-handers - had aggregated 500-plus runs in a Test series against India.

They being West Indian Jimmy Adams (520 in 1994-95), Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya (571 in 1997-98), Zimbabwean Andy Flower (540 in 2000-01) and Australian Matthew Hayden (549 runs in 2000-01). Hooper now has 556 runs.

** Hooper, meanwhile became the 11th batsman to score three or more hundreds in a series against India for the 13th time. Former West Indians Everton Weekes and Gary Sobers being the only ones to do it twice. Australian Don Bradman (in 1947-48), Everton Weekes (in 1948-49) and Pakistani Mudassar Nazar (in 1982-83) are the only three batsmen to make four hundreds in a series against India.
