All about the venues

Mohandas Menon

Ind vs Zim - 2nd Test, New Delhi .

About the city:
New Delhi, is situated on the western bank of the River Yamuna - a tributary of the river Ganga.

This part of the city was built between 1912 and 1929 on a site adjacent to Delhi (or Old Delhi), which had been chosen to replace Calcutta as the capital of India in 1911; New Delhi was thus inaugurated as the new capital in 1931.

About the ground:
The Ferozeshah Kotla Ground has the distinction of hosting the first ever Test match in post-independence India when the touring West Indian team played the opening Test in November 1948. Since then the ground has hosted 26 Test matches in all.

The venue has also hosted 12 Limited over international (LOI) matches since the first in September 1982, upto the one against England last month.

In the recent times it has been a happy hunting ground for the home team.

Since March 1993, India has won its last four match here - against Zimbabwe in March 1993 (by an innings & 13 runs), against Australia in October 1996 (by 7 wickets), against Pakistan in February 1999 (by 212 runs) and against Zimbabwe in November 2000 (by 7 wickets).

Zimbabwe have lost both their matches at this ground (see above).
