Mongia to join team in New Zealand

December 31, 2002 13:56 IST

Left-hander Dinesh Mongia, who has been included in India's World Cup squad, may join the team in New Zealand for the last three matches of the ongoing one-day series.

"The Board of Control for Cricket in India is trying to send Mongia to New Zealand before the fourth ODI on January 8 but everything depends on the availability of his visa," BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya said on Tuesday.

Dalmiya added there was a problem in obtaining a visa for Mongia because of the New Year holidays.

Mongia, he felt, would gain some much needed practice because the fast tracks Down Under were similar to those in South Africa, venue for the World Cup.

Mongia is being sent to New Zealand on a specific request from the team management.

"We requested Dinesh's inclusion no sooner than his name was included in the squad," team manager Nathu Ram Choudhary said in Christchurch.
