Scotland are hoping to sign Indian vice-captain Rahul Dravid to play for them when they make their debut in England's one-day Norwich Union League next summer.
Gwynne Jones, chief executive of Scottish Cricket Limited, spoke to Dravid during last week's third Test between England and India at Headingley.
They decided to turn to him after an initial approach to teammate Sachin Tendulkar was rejected and hope to talk to him again in October.

"I don't consider this to be a slap in the face," continued Kirsten, "rather as a challenge to prove that I belong in the national squad.
"The ball is now in my court to play my way back into the World Cup squad. I will bat against quality bowlers when playing Australia ‘A’ and it would be a big test for me.
"The selectors are still keen to consider me for the World Cup squad," he confirmed
All-rounder Ian Blackwell has been called up to England's squad for September's ICC Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka.
Blackwell, who plays for Somerset in the showpiece domestic Cup final at Lord's on Saturday, will fly to Colombo with the rest of the squad on 12 September.
The 24-year-old averages more than 50 in the C&G Trophy competition and was named man of the match in Somerset's semi-final victory over Kent for a 53-ball innings of 86.

England cricketer Graham Thorpe is set to announce he will be available to tour Australia.
Reports say Thorpe spoke to England selectors on Thursday to tell them of his intentions to be back for the Ashes series at the end of the year.
The left-hander announced after the first Test against India in July, he was taking a break from cricket to spend more time with his children.
He has since not played a competitive game for England or his club side, Surrey.
