I'm still no Bradman, says Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar pleaded yet again not to be mentioned in the same breath as the great Don Bradman after hammering 185 not out against England in the third Test on Friday to overtake the Australian's total of 29 Test centuries.

Tendulkar, who helped India to 584 for four at the end of the second day at Headingley, said: "Statistically I have passed Don Bradman but I can't be compared with him.

"He's not a normal person. You can only dream of scoring a hundred every three innings."

Tendulkar has reached 30 Test centuries in his 99th Test. Bradman made his 30 in 52 matches and averaged a whisker under 100 each visit to the crease, around 40 more than the Indian's average.

Tendulkar was invited to the reclusive Bradman's birthday party shortly before he died, aged 92, in February 2001.

Bradman, regarded as the greatest batsman to have ever played the game, had said Tendulkar was the one batsman who reminded him of himself.

The Indian has always maintained he could not match the Australian. On Friday he was just happy to be himself.

"I wish those days could come along more often," he said. "To score a hundred on my old county ground was something special."

Tendulkar was Yorkshire's first overseas signing in 1992 but never managed a century at their home venue despite three near misses.

He is now just four behind fellow Indian Sunil Gavaskar's all-time record of test centuries.
