Parents greet 'Very Very Special' Laxman

Syed Amin Jafri

Indian batsman V V S Laxman (28), who has been bestowed with Arjuna Award 2001 for his superb knock of 281 against Australia, called up his parents on Wednesday night and was greeted by them on his "great achievement".

"As parents we are very, very happy to hear about Laxman's great achievement (of bagging the award)," V Satyabhama, Laxman's mother, told rediff.com, in Hyderabad.

"Yesterday, between 8.30 and 9 pm (Indian time), Laxman called up, just as he does usually before a match, and we wished him on his achievement," the proud mother recalled.

Laxman was busy with the team's net practice session at Headingley cricket ground in Leeds on the eve of the third Test match against England when the announcement on Arjuna awards was made in Delhi.

"Laxman has got Arjuna award by God's grace. We did not expect anything like this so soon after the recent Wisden's Best Innings of the Century award," Satyabhama said.
